Hardknott Cowl - Free Pattern

Let me introduce Hardknott Cowl, a free crochet pattern designed for us by Tracey Todhunter. I asked Tracey to design a cowl that would be suitable for someone fairly new to crochet and at the same time showcase just how wonderful Orkney Angora is to crochet with. 

Hardknott Cowl uses a variation on the standard half treble to create a woven appearance. The cowl begins with a foundation half treble, which is definitely something you want to try if you've not used before as it gives you a nice foundation to work from. It's worked in the round in spirals using two colours of Orkney Angora; the sample above has been crocheted in Evening Hush and Crimson Glory, two of our custom dyed colours that are exclusive to Tangled Yarn.

The pattern gives instructions for two lengths; the shorter version is ideal to keep out the chill whilst the longer version looks wonderful worn over a jumper or for extra warmth loop twice around the neck for a closer snug fit! To make either size you only need one ball of each colour.

A luxurious blend of lambswool and angora, Orkney Angora St Magnus 50/50 DK is one of those yarns you just want to snuggle up with. It's so soft and warm, yet it's very light and produces a fabric that has the most wonderful halo.  

I wanted to add to the existing colour palette so I've been working closely with Orkney Angora to come up with some wonderful exclusive colours for Tangled Yarn, I hope you'll love them as much as I do!
