    Our Favourite Winter Yarns

Today is the shortest day of the year! So it's apt to talk about some of our favourite winter yarns on the winter solstice.

When the evenings are at their darkest, and the air is full of frost, do you find yourself craving all the comforting things in life? We certainly do - hot chocolate in our favourite mug, a snuggly blanket over our lap, and a pile of gorgeous yarn by our side. It doesn't get much cosier than that, so let's take a look at some of our favourite winter yarns!

    Kaos Chunky Andean Wool

    Kaos Chunky Andean Yarn

If you are looking for a speedy, satisfying knit, check out Kaos Chunky Andean Wool, it will be off your needles and on your body before your car has finished de-icing!* This single-ply yarn is made of 100% Peruvian highland wool and works for garments and accessories. We also offer a range of Kaos Yarn patterns that you can get free when you purchase Kaos Yarn here on the website, so be sure to check them out here!

*Ok, not quite that fast, but it knit up really quickly!

    The Fibre Co Cumbria

    The Fibre Co. Cumbria

The Fibre Co. Cumbria is an absolute dream to work with. It is worsted spun, giving it excellent stitch definition and just the right amount of drape. The combination of English Masham, South American merino wool and Argentine Mohair will keep even the chilliest winter wind at bay.

If Cumbria sparks your interest, remember that you can get Dubwath - a gorgeous cabled cowl pattern that is perfect for keeping the cold out - completely free when you purchase Cumbria Worsted! See here for details.

    De Rerum Natura Gilliatt

    De Rerum Natura Gilliatt

Gilliatt is one of our favourite yarns and is perfect for winter knitting. It has an excellent stitch definition for cables and texture, looks gorgeous in simple stockinette and comes in a range of stunning colourways. It also works for a range of gauges, meaning it has more than earned its 'workhorse yarn' status.

If you want to hear more about this yarn and get a little project inspiration, then you are in luck! Check out our previous blog post.

    Yarnadelic Worsted

Yarnadelic Worsted by John Arbon Textiles

Since Yarnadelic Sport burst onto the scene, it has quickly become loved by knitters and crocheters everywhere, including us here at Tangled Yarn. Imagine our excitement when John Arbon announced a worsted-weight version was in the making with the same gorgeous colourways! We love it for everything from cables to lace.

Biches & Bûches Le Petit Lambswool & Mohair Silk

    BICHES & BÛCHES

Winter yarns do not have to mean you are restricted to heavy yarns, and if you are looking for something as light as a cloud but still super cosy, try Biches & Bûches Le Petit Lambswool, and Le Petit Mohair/Silk held double for a seriously snuggly WIP. The fabric is a dream, allowing you to get creative by combining the different colourways to get your dream shade. Of course, if do prefer something more heavy-weight, Le Gros Lambswool is spun from the same pure lambswool as Le Petit Lambswool, but comes in a chunky aran weight!
