Crochet Along Anyone?
I recently fell down a rabbit hole, not literally you understand but metaphorically speaking! What do I mean you ask? Well I left my two knitting needles behind and picked up my crochet hook! It was around the time that The Shawl Project: Book Two arrived on my desk, a super collection of five crochet designs by Joanne Scrace and Kat Goldin. I'd never really considered crocheting a shawl but these two really know their stuff! Rather than flying solo I thought it might be quite nice to choose one of the patterns from the book and crochet it together in the Tangled Yarn Ravelry group.
The pattern I've decided on is Missing Kingfisher by Joanne Scrace. It's suitable for an intermediate crocheter with an understanding of the basic crochet stitches so double crochet (UK). This two colour shawl is worked in 4ply yarn on a larger crochet hook then you'd expect to give it a lovely drape. It's a crescent shape which is created though using short rows, something new to me in crochet but they are fully explained in the pattern. I'm looking forward to this new challenge and would love for you to join me if you have the time.

MATERIALS
You'll need a 4ply or fingering weight yarn in two colours that either tone or contrast with one another. In terms of yardage for the main colour you'll need 400m whilst the second colour will be slightly less.
Yarn Suggestions:
- SweetGeorgia Tough Love Sock, you'll need two skeins for the main colour and one for the contrast colour, although you can adjust the size of the shawl and then you'll only need one of each.
- Rosy Green Wool in either Heb Merino Fine or Manx Merino Fine or a combination of both. If you are using this yarn then you'll need two skeins of each colour.
- Malabrigo Mechita produces a beautiful fabric when crocheted, the yardage though is 384m so as with Tough Love Sock you may need two skeins of your main colour although you can adapt the pattern slightly to allow for less yarn.
- Signature 4ply would be a choice and you'd only need one ball of each colour, as 100g gives you a generous 400m.
The key to success with your chosen yarn is to swatch first. It will help you see if you like the drape and feel of the fabric and at the same time will make sure you've enough yarn to complete your project; as well as giving you an indication to the finished size of your shawl.
You'll also need a 6mm crochet hook and a removable stitch marker or safety pin.
